The word became flesh

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

According to Paul the Apostle, the mystery of godliness is great without controversy in that God was manifested in the flesh by His Son Jesus Christ. This is phenomenal, because we understand that for the claims of justice to be satisfied, He has to take our place and be human, suffer the penalty of sin, so that we can be redeemed from the power that held us so strong, sin, and liberate us to serve Him in the newness of spirit. In this He took our sin upon himself  in the flesh that we may be justified.

In addition to this fact, one purpose of the incarnation so important and refreshing yet least emphasized is that, He became flesh to model the new creation. The scriptures had been the revelation of God to mankind giving us knowledge of His divine attributes and also the requirements that of places on us. In fact the whole of the written word is a mirror revealing how we have to live. The law of Moses demanded it the Prophets advocated for adherence and the new emphasized it but mankind lacked the capability. So the word became flesh to display the triumph of man over sin and it’s effects. The word became flesh and dwelt among us that we may see the manifestation glory of God even in the flesh.

It is as though God redeemed man and showed us through the incarnation the capability the new recreation. For example, some of the newest inventions though accompanied with manuals, yet the manufacturers at the inauguration will still be present to demonstrate how it works. In becoming flesh,

  • He showed us that though we may have the calling we still need divine approval before we set out. As the heavens opened whilst He prayed and an angel remarked, “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased”.Luke 9:34-35
  • He overcame temptation with” it is written” to show us that the word is our weapon of victory when employed against temptations. Matthew 4:4
  • He models for us dependence on God through His devotion to prayer; a hallmark of His activities. Mark 1:37
  • When we surrender our will to the Father. The purpose of heaven would be accomplished in our lives. John 5:30
  • We can deal with those who offend us by asking for their forgiveness. Luke 23:34
  • As He walked on the water in the storms we learn that though the elements of life may rage, there is a power that is at work in us to make us outwit the forces of life. Mark 4:39

This is the glory that we of God that is revealed by the word becoming flesh. This glory is also to be revealed as you and I manifest as sons through our redemption.

May we become as He was.
